Platform and wheelchair lift quotes

Which type of lift do you need?

The main choices are a vertical platform lift for a short rise, an inclined platform lift that follows the stairs, and an enclosed lift for a greater rise. The right option depends on the height, the space and who will use it. A lift company can advise once it knows the site.

Public buildings and workplaces

A lift providing access in a public building may have to meet building and access requirements that do not apply in a private house. Tell the lift company what the building is used for, and involve your building surveyor or access consultant where the lift is part of a building approval.

Homes

At home, the wheelchair size, the turning space at each level and whether the lift is indoors or outdoors all matter. If you are seeking funding, ask your occupational therapist or provider what is needed before you commit to a product.

Is a platform lift the same as a stair lift?

No. A stair lift usually carries a seated person on a rail along the stairs. A platform lift carries a person standing or in a wheelchair on a platform.

Can a platform lift go outdoors?

Some are designed for it. Tell the lift company where it will go so a suitable model can be proposed.
