Stair lift quotes
A stair lift can make a staircase usable again without building a shaft. Tell us about the stairs and who will use the lift, and we will look for an independent installer in your area.
How much does a stair lift cost in Australia?
Figures published by Australian suppliers mostly put a straight stair lift at around $3,500 to $9,000 installed, and a curved stair lift at around $9,000 to $25,000. These are indicative, not quotes. Reconditioned units and rental are also advertised for straight stairs, which may suit a short-term need.
Why curved stairs cost more
A straight rail can often be cut from a standard length. A curved rail is usually made to fit your staircase, so turns, landings and the total length of the run all affect the price and the lead time. Ask how long manufacture and installation will take.
Check it suits the person using it
A stair lift needs its user to transfer to and from the seat safely. If a wheelchair must also travel between floors, a platform lift or home lift may suit better. An occupational therapist can advise, and may be needed if you are seeking funding.
What to include in your enquiry
- Suburb and type of home
- Straight or curved stairs, with photos
- Number of steps and any landings
- Who will use it and any mobility needs
Common questions
Can I get funding for a stair lift?
Some people are eligible through programs such as the NDIS or aged care home support, depending on their circumstances. Check with the program or your provider before you commit to a purchase.
Does a stair lift need servicing?
Yes. Ask the installer for the recommended service interval, the cost and what happens if the lift breaks down.
